First we went to Franschoek.
To set the scene for you, it’s a glory of great restaurants, amazing vineyards and oh-so-hip places to stay, set in a valley between towering mountains. We went to the wonderful guest house Le Cle de Montagne and photographed our own Ritty Tacsum t-shirts image hanging in one of their villas.
Then on to the Explorer’s Club, another great place to stay. Spot the Lumitrix image …
The Explorer’s Club has fantastic South African art hanging on the walls, including an image by Horst Klemm.
We love his pictures – both the sweeping panoramas which capture the raw beauty of the South African landscape, and also the stylish nudes.
If ever in Franschoek, look out for the stunning Dylan Lewis sculptures. His global profile is massive, but a lot of his work can be found here. His more recent figurative abstracts have an extraordinary power.
And finally, here is a Franschoek restaurant tip: The Kitchen at Maison. Possibly our favourite restaurant in the world.
