Orange Abstract

Steven Glass

Leaves are framed against a white wall in bleached out sunshine. Shot in the Dordogne, Orange Abstract makes us think of hazy summer days.

Quick Questions

Where do you live? What do you love about it?

I live in Guernsey on the Channel Islands. When the sun shines and I’m on the cliffs, or down by the sea at low tide, the feeling of peace is crystal clear.

Are you artistic in other ways- can you draw?

I started my creative career painting in oils and acrylic. I’ve worked on film sets including Lord of The Rings in New Zealand.

Describe your design process?

My creative process is gentle - I like to absorb myself in what I see. I like to fill the frame. Composition and negative space are very important to me.

Who are your artistic heroes?

Fan Ho from China – his precision and compositional balance are just wonderful. Also George Harrisson.

What is in your dream fine art photographic collection?

 Any number of Sebastiao Salgado.

How did your photographic career begin?

In my mum's darkroom at the age of seven.

What advice would you give younger photographers?

 Do it for the love.

Describe your first break.

Perhaps I’m a little tough on myself, but I’m still waiting for that one!

What are your favourite things to do on a Sunday?

Fall asleep in the sunshine outside by the beach.

What angers you?

What is a good life?

 Simplistic freedom.
