This new collection of handmade cyanotypes from Ellie Tsatsou, focuses on auto-luminescent sources of energy. The series studies the light-sensitivity of her printing surfaces and the depth of her materials, producing results that float across the spectrum of cyan and blue. In partnership with the sun, Ellie Tsatsou brings forth its vigor and grace. Visually, the works explore variations of the circular shape and consequently, the embedded notions of flow and continuity.

This is an excellent example of Jun Tokunaga’s moment-in-time focus on floral photography. Note the specific outline of the light, positioning the plant against a window. It’s a romantic interpretation of fauna that feels like it could have been a still from a vintage film.

This is perhaps the quintessential Jun Tokunaga shot. The pink and red hues of each subject are set apart thanks to the blue background, seemingly vying for attention while also serving as ample contrast to one another. Note the blurring of the edges around the petals, transforming the plants into abstract figures.

Showing her skill with aspects of fine art floral photography, Jun Tokunaga goes a little beyond the colour saturation, opting to instead adeptly position her focus. The result is a shot that points a wandering eye at specific positions.

The bright, expressive reds of the poppies in question here aren’t lost to the green foliage of the background. Even when blurred as part of its surroundings, this floral print from Japanese photographer Jun Tokunaga manages to have its say and stand apart.

Heat and energy, these are the words that bring out the feeling that Jun Tokunaga’s ‘Flower 08’ invokes. Note the blue background, showing the slightest hint of a warmed sepia tone.

A study in gradient colour, Jun Tokunaga’s shot focuses on one of the most recognisable flowers in the world: the pink rose. Note the sunset effect of the transitioning colours in the background, gradually fading from the sky’s blue into the petals’ pink.
