Cyanotype

We are delighted to present our new digital exhibition Cyanotype. The chosen subject matter of cyanotypes visibly reflects on more traditional practices within photography. Cyanotypes were perhaps the first step towards modern photography.

We celebrate the cyanotype by uniting exquisite works by leading female photographers such as Ellie Tsatsou, Jo de Pear, Liesel Pfeffer and Helen Dixon. The cyanotype is a photographic printing process that traditionally uses the chemicals ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide to create a cyan-blue print. It was originally developed as a copying technique for architectural or mechanical drawings known as a “blueprints” in the 1840s.
